Body of Light
Exhibited Bell-Ans, Volition Gallery, New York, 2017
Exhibited Van Der Plas Gallery, Lower East Side, New York, 2019
This Body of Light Collection illuminates the ever changing rhythms of life, human experience and the intimate relationship with our Self between strength, vulnerability and the ultimate return to our humanness. Dually creating this volume of work while filling the role as curator for the Local Love Photography exhibit was a dually fulfilling. The direction I chose for this exhibit draws on two decades of experience immersed in my work within the healing arts – which endowed me with the experience and privilege of accompanying those on the path of living, healing and passing from this world. Encountering diversity in the vastness of human experience, each client’s session in the healing arts procures the Body of Light, within strength and vulnerability and the return to being human.
As curator, the exhibit included 5 additional photographers, opening reception keynote by Spencer Tunick with, as he says, his wife and muse, Kristin Bowler. I chose to create an interactive opening reception art installation that would not only serve during the opening reception as interactive but for visitors to the exhibit throughout it’s residency at Bell-Ans. The installation titled, Love is…, built of 100 envelopes adhered to one of the exhibit walls – where guests during opening reception would write on notes cards what “Love is…” then slip inside the envelope. Throughout the exhibit’s time visitors would have a voyeuristic read of the cards placed in the envelopes.
Two years later, the Van Der Plas Gallery on New York’s Lower East Side would invite Body of Light to exhibit for their 8 Exhibit.
Working with a diverse range of natural light and candid moments I’m continuously inspired by the beauty of the natural world, connection, capturing the micro moments of expression and evoking the human spirit.
From early days of film, processing in the darkroom to travel throughout Canada on two tours documenting Canadian double platinum band Big Wreck, NYC yoga culture, Hudson Valley Organic Farmettes and editorial work as managing editor of a Hudson Valley magazine, my inquiry of new experiences drives me to continually evolve my perception, while reminding me of the importance of carrying my camera with compassion, humor and curiosity.
